Bride Cuts Husband's Genitals Four Months After Marriage in Kaduna

In Kaduna, a 40-year-old man narrowly escaped with his life after his bride attempted to sever his genitals with a knife. The farmer and motorcycle taxi driver is currently receiving medical care in the hospital following the incident.
The husband, speaking to Aminiya newspaper, recounted the event that occurred on May 26, 2024. After returning from morning prayers at the mosque and taking a nap, he was suddenly attacked by his wife who slashed his genitals with a knife.
Married for just four months, the husband stated that his wife is currently two months pregnant with his child. He expressed confusion over her motive, claiming that their marriage had been peaceful and loving up until the attack.
Upon being attacked, the husband shouted for help, and neighbors came to his rescue. Initially taken to Kudan Hospital, he was subsequently transferred to Makarfi and then to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Shika, where surgeons successfully treated his injuries.
When asked if he would reconcile with his wife after recovery, the husband stated that his health was his priority and doubted he could continue living with her as his spouse. He added that the traumatic incident has likely deterred him from ever remarrying.
The man's mother, who is caring for him, confirmed that there had been no prior complaints or signs of trouble between the couple, and the family was unaware of any health or spiritual issues with the wife.
The wife's parents have expressed concern and are willing to cover medical expenses, but the husband's family has asked them to wait until he is discharged from the hospital.
Efforts to obtain statements from the doctors involved in the surgery or hospital officials were unsuccessful due to patient confidentiality laws. The wife is currently in police custody while investigations continue. Attempts to contact the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansur Hassan, were also unsuccessful.
